Minot State University faced a stiff challenge on its road trip through Colorado but remains in the top spot in the 2017-2018 American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1 Ranking No. 7.  The Beavers (10-0-1) started off with a Thursday night beatdown of Colorado State University (8-1) before splitting a pair of games against University of Colorado. On Friday, the Beavers succumbed in the fourth round of a shootout to lose in overtime (2-1 OT SO 1-0) against the Buffaloes before responding with a gritty 3-2 win on Saturday.  Adrian College (10-0-0) hunkered down at No. 2 for the third straight week after destroying Western Michigan University, winning 9-1 on Thursday at home followed by and 8-0 win on Saturday in Kalamazoo, Mich.  The University of Illinois catapulted up three spots to the No. 3 position after an impressive road weekend at last week’s No. 3 Lindenwood University, losing in a shootout on Friday (4-3 OT-SO 3-2) and gutting out a 3-1 win on Saturday over the Lions. The University of Central Oklahoma, the defending American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1 National Champions, brought home three wins from Arizona after beating both the University of Arizona (3-0) and Arizona State University (5-1, 6-0) to inch up a spot to No.4 this week, while the University of Colorado rounds out this week’s Top 5.

Moving back into the polls this week after a one week hiatus is No. 24 Arizona State University. Eastern Michigan University drops out of the Top 25 after only one week.

The Central States Collegiate Hockey League leads the way with all five of its member teams ranked, while the Western Collegiate Hockey League has six (of 8) of its member teams ranked, the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League has five (of 9) of its member teams ranked, and the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League has three (of 8) of its member teams ranked.

The computer ranking will for the fifth time determine the 20 teams that qualify for the 2018 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships, which will include the following six autobids:

  • (CHMA) College Hockey Mid-America
  • (ECHA) Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association
  • (ESCHL) Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League
  • (GLCHL) Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League
  • (NECHL) Northeast Collegiate Hockey League
  • (WCHL) Western Collegiate Hockey League

A total of 60 teams are competing in Men’s Division 1 this season, including three new teams: Calvin College, New York University and University of Nevada-Las Vegas. The two teams that have departed Men’s Division 1 include Binghamton University and Indiana Tech.

The ACHA uses two computer rankings generated by USHSHO.com, Ranking A (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 7) and Ranking B (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 1), and come up with an average of the two rankings.  The ACHA will then use the list generated from the average for its weekly ranking.  Ties will be broken using the higher ranked team from Ranking B until the Top 25 teams are listed.  Games that go to a shootout will be scored as ties.

In its 27th season of action, there have been a total of 13 schools that have won the ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championship:

  • Penn State (5 times)
  • Ohio (4)
  • Lindenwood (3)
