Minot State University remained in the top spot for the fourth consecutive week in the 2017-2018 American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1 Ranking, No. 16.  The Beavers, which have held the No. 1 spot for ten of the ranking periods, hammered visiting Midland University (8-0, 10-1) to improve to 23-2-1 in Division 1 play this season.  Second-ranked Adrian College (21-1-0) swept Illinois State (10-1, 6-2) and clinched the automatic berth for the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL).  This was the sixth Regular Season Championship for the Bulldogs in eight seasons.  Idle Lindenwood University (18-3-4) held the No. 3 position while No. 4 Ohio University (22-7-1) traveled to Chicago and swept Robert Morris University Illinois (2-1, 4-2).  University of Colorado (20-6-1) jumped up one spot to rounding out the Top 5 after splitting its series on the road against Stony Brook University.  The home Seawolves managed a 3-1 win on Fridaybefore the Buffaloes responded with a 7-3 win on Saturday evening.

Liberty University also clinched an automatic berth to the 2018 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships after securing the regular season title of the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL).  The Flames (22-6-0) swept the University of Delaware (8-5, 7-4) on the road to clinch the Regular Season Championship.

The Central States Collegiate Hockey League leads the way with all five of its member teams ranked, while the Western Collegiate Hockey League has six (of 8) of its member teams ranked, the GLCHL has five (of 9) of its member teams ranked, and the ESCHL has four (of 8) of its member teams ranked.

The computer ranking will for the fifth time determine the 20 teams that qualify for the 2018 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships, which will include the following six autobids:

  • (CHMA) College Hockey Mid-America
  • (ECHA) Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association
  • (ESCHL) Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League – Liberty University
  • (GLCHL) Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League – Adrian College
  • (NECHL) Northeast Collegiate Hockey League
  • (WCHL) Western Collegiate Hockey League

A total of 60 teams are competing in Men’s Division 1 this season, including three new teams: Calvin College, New York University and University of Nevada-Las Vegas.  The two teams that have departed Men’s Division 1 include Binghamton University and Indiana Tech.

The ACHA uses two computer rankings generated by USHSHO.com, Ranking A (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 7) and Ranking B (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 1), and come up with an average of the two rankings.  The ACHA will then use the list generated from the average for its weekly ranking.  Ties will be broken using the higher ranked team from Ranking B until the Top 25 teams are listed.  Games that go to a shootout will be scored as ties.

In its 27th season of action, there have been a total of 13 schools that have won the ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championship:
