The Illini Hockey team was looking for their first win of the season, and they were close to getting it in front of the Dad's Weekend crowd enjoying the game at the Big Pond. Unfortunately the Illini are still looking for that elusive first win.

On Friday night the Saints and Illini took to the ice in front of one of the Illini's largest crowds this season. The Saints controlled the majority of the first period, peppering Illini goaltender Ben Mazucek with 16 shots, compared to the Illini's 6 on the Maryville net minder. The Illini were able to keep the Saints off the scoreboard until the last 90 seconds of the period when Colt Corpse put a shot past Mazucek. Both the Illini offense and defense had a little more composure in the second period, and as the clock was winding down, Illini Alexander Matveev tied the game at 1-1. Neither team was able to break the deadlock in the third period, or in the overtime period so the game was to be decided by a shootout. It only took two rounds of the shootout to give Maryville the 2-1 win over the Illini. Final Score: Illini 1 - Saints 2

Saturdays game was much different all around, as things got a little chippier between the teams and the score was not nearly as close. In the first period Maryville was able to take advantage of Illini penalties, netting two goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. Penalties and goals both ramped up the the second period. Unfortunately for the Illini, most of the penalties were on them while the Saints added 4 more goals to their score. Tempers flared during the third period, and Maryville put two more goals on the board, shutting out the Illini. Final Score: Illini 0 - Saints 8

The Illini's next game will be on Friday, December 02 as they take on Illinois State in Bloomington.
