![]() The Illini doubled their wins over the weekend and spoiled the Roosevelt Lakers Senior night with two wins on the Laker's home ice. Both games were close as teams traded goals throughout the two events, needing an over-time period and shoot-out to decide them. On Friday night the Illini took the lead early with a goal from Jacob Mydlinski at the 2:40 mark of the first period. Unfortunately the Illini wouldn't find the back of the net for another 40 minutes of playing time. Roosevelt controlled the second period putting seventeen shots on goal with two of them finding the back of the Illini net, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Lakers. The Illini tied the game at two early in the third period with a shot from Patrick McDonough that found it's way past the Laker's netminder. Just three minutes later Alek Bogdonoff gave the Illini a one goal lead, taking his turn at lighting the lamp. With time running out Roosevelt pulled their goalie, Josh Brown, in favor of the extra attacker. The tactic paid off as the Laker's tied the game with just over a minute left in the game. The teams headed into a five minute over-time period with the score tied at 3-3, but the game would not be decided there, it would be decided by a shoot-out. Neither team's first pair of shooters could find the back of their opponent's nets, while each of the third skaters did. The difference would come in the fourth round as the Illini's Luke Alpe scored what would be the game winning shot with the Illini's Ben Mazurek turning away the Lakers final shot. The Illini took game one with a Final Score of Illini 4 - Lakers 3. On Saturday night the Lakers cerebrated their seniors and that seemed to have energized the team, as they dominated the first period and scored two unanswered goals. The Illini woke up in the second period as Jacob Mydlinski and Alek Bogdonoff scored goals at 8:58 and 13:32. The Lakers regained the lead with just under three minutes left in the period. Early in the third period Francesco Addante tied the game at 3-3, which was followed up by a power-play goal from Greg Etingen at 8:26, giving the Illini a one goal lead. Roosevelt tied the game once more, taking advantage of an Illini penalty at the 12:13 mark of the third. Francesco Addante picked up his second goal of the evening at the 15:40 point, a shot that turned out to be the game winning goal for the Illini. Final score: Illini 5 - Lakers 4 |
